What is Rajputi Poshak…

The dress has four parts which together make it a Poshak; these are “Kanchali”, “Kurti”, “Ghagra” and “Odhani”. This dress was designed like only the hands of ladies will be visible else this pretty attire will cover the body. Earlier In Rajput community ladies were not allowed to roam freely and hence this was their traditional attire.

Beautiful history…

Poshak is a Hindi word which means attire. “Rajputi Poshak” is a stunning and lively dress which is a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani cultural heritage. It is believed that this dressing style was stimulated through Mughals, as at that time there was Parda Culture( Ghunghat ). According to the old royal era, ladies were not allowed to roam around the city without covering their face and body. So for attaining this culture, the Poshaks were made.

Initially skilled tailors use to stitch this attire for royal families, but with the evolution of time many people learned this skill. For making a single Poshak, four different parts are stitched differently. The beauty of Rajputi Poshak is in the embroidery. In earlier times the embroidery on these Poshaks were done from real gold and silver.

You will see Danka, Gota Patti, Zardosi and Kundan work, which makes this attire more beautiful. The fabrics mostly used in making are pure georgette, chiffon, pure satan or crape. The highly contrasting colors used on the Rajputi Poshak as it signifies the royal charm. The beauty of Poshak doubles because of the intricate embroidery on the Odhani.
